Operator in Residence
The person whose job it is to ship what your team already built.
Here is what happens after good training. Your people build things. Recharge's cohorts built ninety tools. PEC built five worth $220,000. Then the programme ends, and most of that work sits in a demo folder, because shipping it was nobody's actual job.
An Operator in Residence is whose job it is.
A senior builder embeds with your team one to two days a week, with our agent stack behind them, and turns the backlog your people already created into systems the company genuinely runs. Not an advisor who recommends. Not a contractor you rent by the hour. An operator who works alongside your team and ships, then leaves the work running without them.
What "forward deployed" was reaching for
Forward deployed engineers became normal because software companies learned that shipping the product is not the same as the customer succeeding with it. So they send an engineer.
The idea is right and the incentive is wrong. A forward deployed engineer is sent to make the vendor's product succeed inside your company. An Operator in Residence is embedded to make your people succeed with whatever tools serve them, with AI in the loop rather than in charge.
That is the difference between someone deployed to you and someone working with you.
Why we will not sell it cold
It only works when your team has already built a backlog worth shipping. That is why it is available by invitation after an Accelerator or an Audit, and why the first question we ask is not what you want built, but what your people have already built and could not get into production.
What it costs
Operator in Residence sits at the fourth rung of the ADOPT Method™ ladder. A fractional Chief AI Officer commands the same $54,000 per 90-day cycle. The difference is the deliverable: governance and sequencing authority in the first case, shipped production systems in the second.
You do not leave with recommendations. You leave with things that run.

FAQs
AI can be overwhelming. We provide straightforward answers to common questions.
An Operator in Residence is a senior builder who embeds with your team one to two days a week and turns AI prototypes your people have already built into production systems. It costs $18,000 per month with a three-month minimum. Unlike a fractional Chief AI Officer, who owns governance and strategy at executive level, an Operator in Residence writes and ships the software.
A forward deployed engineer is sent by a software vendor to make that vendor's product succeed inside your company. An Operator in Residence is embedded to make your team succeed with whatever tooling fits, and leaves the systems running without them. The idea behind forward deployment is right and the incentive is wrong. That is the difference between someone deployed to you and someone working with you.
Fractional Chief AI Officer engagements are typically priced around $54,000 per 90-day cycle or $180,000 per year. An Operator in Residence is priced the same, at $18,000 per month. The difference is the deliverable: governance and sequencing authority in the first case, shipped production systems in the second. See all five programmes and their prices.
Because the work is productionizing a backlog, and the backlog has to exist first. Companies that have run an Accelerator finish with production prototypes their own people built. That is the raw material. Without it there is nothing to embed around.
Three. Client days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, with Tuesday and Thursday reserved for agent-leveraged build work. Capacity is deliberately limited.
Most AI prototypes stall for the same reason: shipping them was nobody's actual job. The prototype gets built during a training programme or a hackathon, the programme ends, and the work sits in a demo folder because no one owns the integration, the security review or the handover. The companies that get past it do three things. They name a single owner for each tool before the programme ends. They pick the two or three prototypes with a real user waiting, rather than trying to ship all of them. And they give someone dedicated build time, because production work does not fit in the gaps between meetings. An Operator in Residence is one way to buy that third thing: a senior builder embedded one to two days a week whose only job is turning the backlog into systems that run.
Start by cutting the list. A twelve-week programme with fifty people produces a lot of prototypes, and most of them were built to learn rather than to last. Keep the ones where somebody is already asking when it will be ready. For each survivor, name the owner, write down what breaks if it stops working, and get it through whatever security and data review your organisation requires. That review is usually the real bottleneck, not the code. Then give it dedicated build time. The gap between a working prototype and a system the company depends on is integration, error handling and handover, and none of that happens in spare hours. This is exactly the work an Operator in Residence does, which is why we only offer it after an Accelerator or an Audit: the backlog has to exist first.
